KPV is a three-amino-acid sequence derived from the C-terminal region of alpha-MSH. Published work has examined it mainly in laboratory systems and animal models.
Areas of research interest
Current evidence
The evidence is predominantly preclinical. Studies report experimental signalling and tissue outcomes in cells and mice. Work using excised human skin measured laboratory permeation rather than a clinical outcome.
Important limitations
Cell cultures, excised tissue and mouse models cannot establish clinical effects, safety or long-term outcomes in humans. Formulation-specific nanoparticle findings do not apply to KPV generally.
