MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide studied as a cellular signalling molecule, particularly in metabolism and skeletal muscle.
Areas of research interest
Current evidence
Intervention findings for native MOTS-c are predominantly preclinical. A small human exercise study measured naturally occurring MOTS-c but did not test a commercial MOTS-c product. An early registered study concerns a modified analogue rather than native MOTS-c.
Important limitations
Cell and animal findings cannot establish clinical outcomes. The human exercise component was small and observational, while analogue research does not prove equivalence to native MOTS-c or this catalogue item.
