Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of human growth-hormone-releasing hormone. Published research has examined a pharmaceutical formulation in tightly defined human clinical populations.

Current evidence
Human evidence includes two multicentre Phase 3 studies in antiretroviral-treated adults living with HIV and excess abdominal fat. A later secondary analysis examined associations with liver-enzyme changes.
Important limitations
The studies involved a narrow clinical population and limited follow-up. A secondary association cannot establish causation, and trial findings do not prove equivalence to independently supplied material.
